A Question…Who would you invite?

I am participating in a book study with our meal group and we are reading the book “Just Walk Across the Room”.  The premise of the book is essentially that our primary role in evangelism is to be in tune with the subtle promptings of the Holy Spirit and to respond in faith to whatever we are feeling prompted to do/say.  The challenge of the book (located in the title) is literally take the risk, step out in faith, and just walk across the room to introduce yourself, or be a friendly neighbor, or co-worker, all the while open to what God might have in store for the conversation.

This of course comes more naturally to some people, but it is required of all of us who follow Jesus.  In the gospels, Jesus says that we are to be his “witnesses” in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth.  A witness does nothing more than testify to their experience.  It’s not their job to convince the judge or the jury, but rather to tell their story and relay what they experienced.  Our role in evangelism is very much the same.  Jesus asks us to simply testify to the grace, forgiveness, transformation and hope that we have experienced in Christ and He promises that the Spirit of God will do the rest.

I’m wondering if I were to ask you the question “who would you invite to Soulstice” or “who would you invite to church”, what names would immediatetly come to mind?  What is holding you back?  Why haven’t you taken that step of faith?  What fears do you have that keep you from walking across the lawn, or the office to say to a friend, neighbor, co-worker, family member, “I go to a pretty amazing church with amazing people and I would love it if you came with me/us some time.”

How about this for an idea:  Carbone’s Pizza Night is happening again on the 28th of February.  Would you commit to praying and asking God who you could invite to Soulstice that night?  Simple task, just pray and ask God to impress on your heart someone, or some family to invite to Soulstice.  When it happens, when you get that Spirit prompting, your role is to walk across the room in faith, trusting that God may in fact already be up to something, and simply invite them.  Looking forward to what God might do in and through His church.
